Why would we set aside an entire day to honor moms?
For what reason do we praise mothers?
What would this world be without moms?
It’s a scary thought indeed. Mothers are the backbone of society and deserve a great deal of respect. Mothers have been entrusted with the noble task of giving life to and raising up the next generation of humankind.
In my short
existence, I have observed that in the daily lives of my own mother, my wife,
and friends who mother that these women wear a variety of hats. On any given
day and at any given time they act as teacher, nurse, entertainer, chief,
contortionist, taxi driver, lawyer, waitress, secretary, and manager. Often
times I’ve seen my own wife or mother tackle all of these jobs at once. The
tenacity of moms never ceases to amaze me!
The
following words written by a couple of eight year olds seem adequate to explain
the plight of the everyday mom:
- . Eight-year-old Mary wrote her mother a note for Mother’s Day. "Dear Mother, here is the box of candy I bought you for Mother’s Day. IT IS VERY GOOD CANDY. I KNOW, BECAUSE I ALREADY AT 3 PIECES."
- Eight-year-old Carol also wrote her mother said, "DEAR MOTHER, HERE ARE 2 ASPIRINS. HAVE A HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY."
Mothers and women truly
are a gift from God and should be treated as such. They teach us many valuable
lessons For example…
* Mothers teach us about
foresight: "Make sure you wear clean underwear in case you’re in an
accident."
* Mothers teach us about logic: "If you fall out of that tree and break your neck, don’t come crying to me."
* Mothers teach us about maturity: "Eat your vegetables or you’ll never grow up."
* Mothers teach us about religion: "You better pray that comes out of the carpet."
* Mothers teach us about time travel: "If you don’t straighten up, I’m going to knock you into the middle of next week!"
* Mothers teach us about contradictions: "Shut your mouth and eat your dinner!"
* Mothers teach us about being a contortionist: "Will you look at the dirt on the back of your neck?"
* Mothers teach us about perseverance: "You are going to sit here until you eat every last piece of that broccoli."
* Mothers teach us about genetics: "You’re just like your father."
* Mothers teach us about the weather: "It looks like a tornado swept through your room."
* Mothers teach us about the circle of life: "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out."
* Mothers teach us about logic: "If you fall out of that tree and break your neck, don’t come crying to me."

But If there is one thing mom's teach you it is fear...
“Wait until your dad gets
home!”
Mothers teach us many things. Take the example of these godly mothers from the Bible:
Biblical Examples of Godly
mothers
· Eve - literally means the mother of all
· Sarah - The elderly mother who laughed at the notion of having children.
She gave birth to Isaac
· Naomi - Faithful mother-in-law to Ruth. her faithfulness to her
family would produce the line of David
· Hannah - Mother who prayed for God to give her a child. She gave
birth to Samuel.
· Mary - The mother of Jesus
· Louis & Eunice- Timothy’s Mother and Grandmother.
We can observe at least three qualities in all of these mothers that contribute to their success:
1. They Fear God and teach their children to do the same
2. They have a proper relationship with their family.
3. They demenstrate a lifestyle of service to others.
Jesus called us to love one
another. He told us that whatever we do to the least
of these we have done it
for him also.
If you want to be someone
great, respected, admired, and leave a lasting legacy serve others!
This is the role model for next
weeks study of spiritual leadership.
SERVICE IS THE BEGINNING OF EFFECTIVE
LEADERSHIP!
We can learn allot from moms.
For all of these things we need to learn from them. Moms are among the bravest
people on the face of the planet. I for one salute your commitment to the
ministry God has called you to. Praise God for you moms. I pray God calls out more
women like you to bring up a godly generation of Christ followers.
We all have a role to play in the grand design of grace? May we come to know Him and the role He has designed for us all.
